Thank you for your interest in my work. My name is Joanne Kilner, I am a professional artist specialising in custom pet portraits to commission and original equestrian art. I was born and still live and work in Barnsley South Yorkshire. I love being so close to the countryside and it is a constant source of inspiration with so much of nature on the doorstep.

I have always loved art from a very young age and animals have always been my favourite subject matter. I started riding when I was 9 years old and naturally horses became my subject of obsession when it came to my art (much to my past art teachers' annoyance!). My fascination with horses led me to my first pet portrait commission to paint a friend's horse when I was 14 and the interest continued,  receiving requests from family and friends to paint their pets.

I feel having owned and been around animals for much of my life has enabled me to gain knowledge into their structure and movement, and I can appreciate how animals are all individuals with their own personality quirks! I feel every animal is special and worthy of being portrayed be it a champion show horse or much loved family pony. I aim to capture the individuality and character of all the animals I paint in my portraits, so it not only looks like them, it is them.

I decided to take the plunge and set up professionally after increasing interest in my work, and love nothing more than being able to spend my time doing the thing I am most passionate about.
